25 years ago financial information such as banking interest rates remained unpublished by the press. In 1976 these rates had reached up to a monthly 20%, a fact that lead Juan Manuel Casanueva (current President of GTD Group) to create a newsletter for companies operating in this area.

Thus Indice Bulletin became a commercial success as it provided the previous day´s interest rates. Everything was going smoothly until a snag cropped up related to communication problems with the banks for obtaining the necessary timely information; their telephone lines were either not working or constantly busy.

At that time the Telephone Company was state-owned and it took long to obtain new lines. This is the reason that gave rise to the present private telecommunications company called “Comunicaciones Capítulo Ltda.” that connects (links) telephonically every bank, broker, pension administrator, financial institution, and any company that needs fast comunications with their branches, subsidiaries, current account executives, brokers and others through an extension mode, immediately reducing telephone costs. At that time, Capítulo had to rent poor quality lines with slow response times from the Telephone Company, having as a result very unsatisfied clients. During the remodeling of Ahumada Avenue, they were able to install their own underground pipelines, providing therefore communication services to Comunicaciones Capítulo Ltda.

And so today´s Gtd Teleductos Company has become a 5,000 miles of fiber optics and copper-wire network, providing data, voice and video transmission services. Gtd Teleducto´s main partners are Chilean investors. In 1991 it became the first company that gives private services on fiber Optics in the modality of LAN Extended.

Between 1996 and 2000, Gtd Telesat (Local Telephone Company), Gtd Internet (Internet Service Provider), Gtd Larga Distancia (Long Distance Carrier), and Gtd Telemedic (Long Distance Medical Diagnosis Systems) were founded, all of them in Telecommunications business. On July 2000 was born Gtd Group, to hold this four companies and Gtd Teleductos, becaming an integral holding in the telecommunications business of the country.

In 2005, Gtd Group bought Manquehue Enterprises, fully entering the residential business area.

In 2006, Gtd Group founded Gtd Imagen, the first cable operator company that gives 100% Digital Television services in Chile.

In 2008 Gtd Manquehue deploy the country’s first network based on fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology. Installation and deployment of the GPON network will start in the third quarter of 2008, initially serving residential broadband users in Santiago’s prestigious Santa María de Manquehue district, with other neighborhoods of Chile’s capital city following shortly after.

The solution will enable Gtd Manquehue, which serves residential customers and small and medium businesses for the Gtd Group, to deliver advanced broadband services such as high-definition television (HDTV), Internet protocol television (IPTV), video on demand (VoD) and high-speed Internet.
